put the bit in your horses mouth and put the curb chain where it naturally sits just above your horses lower lip and connect it with the other side of the bit.
pull the reins like the wrong way so they are coming out towards you when you are in front of your horses head and if the chain sits flat and not loose above the lip then you have got it tight enough, if not, re-adjust it so it does lay flat.
Not too tight but not too loose.
the top ring on the Pelham attaches to your horses cheek piece,
The biggest D-shaped ring is used like the snaffle and one rein is attached to it
The ring that moves should have your 2nd rein on (that's if you use two reins)
You will know if you have it the right way because the curb chain will be on the back of the bit when you put it in the horses mouth
When you ride and use the Pelham, hold the rein attached to the d shaped ring tightest so you are not pulling on the horses head with the lower rein
and use the lower of the 2 reins (the one attached to the moving ring at the bottom) for extra support if you need it
like kind of half halt with the bottom rein when cantering in company
